Terrorist Bugs...

What do you call terrorist bugs?
ci-Qaedas!
(-Amy Nelson)

Well apparently 13 years have gone by since the the last dreading invasion of cicadas. I did not know that there only a few places here in the US that are "blessed" with the presence of such. For those of you that may not know this is a cicada...

They also make a "wonderful" symphonic noise. yea.

Cicada shells started appearing on my front porch Monday morning. The symphony though became deafening just today. Facebook cicada recipes are going up like crazy! (Apparently fresh cicada is a luxury item here in the South much like possum roadkill.)

The first traumatic event of the season occurred when I went to mail a letter. I opened the mailbox only to have this blessed creature fly in my face. I screamed and J ran to the front door to make sure that I was okay (or laugh at me). I almost peed my pants. I started having flashbacks of the traumatic cicada event 13 years ago which resulted in me running into my church building while stripping off my shirt. Sigh.

The cicadas will only be around for a couple of weeks, but that is much to long for my liking.

What is the cicada situation in your neck of the woods?

  1. I've seen one but haven't heard any yet. I feel left out.
