SHeBrews at Suzy Wong's House of Yum

On Wednesday night, I meet with my girls small group. We are affectionately known as SHeBrews. (Yes, it is typed that way for a reason.) We usually meet at Fido's for coffee, encouragement, prayer, and some times crafts. It is a nice standing appointment with girls that are like-minded.

Last week while at Fido's, we stumbled across a little book of Nashville's original/local restaurants and an idea was born. Why not try a new place each Wednesday night? We were pleased to see that Fido's is included. The plan is that each week we will take turns opening to a random page of the book- whatever restaurant is on that page is the restaurant we will go to the following week. If it is a restaurant that is pricey then we will share an appetizer or dessert.

Our first pick of the SHeBrews and Nashville Originals was Suzy Wong's House of Yum. We tramped out to Church St. in the rain this past Wednesday for some wonderful eats! We had Red Curry Queso, Pineapple Red Curry Shrimp, Peanut Sauce Chicken, and Wanton Deluxe Nachos. The plate says it all. Yum. My appetite was not up to par so I am looking forward to going back for some more yum. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is chic. SHeBrews will be going back to see Suzy Wong again.

I got to make the random pick for next week. Next Wednesday we will be at Cha Chah. Spanish and Mediterranean tapas, already can't wait.

Fall Break: Radnor Lake

No fall season is complete without a trip to Radnor Lake.

I was excited to spend my first day of fall break on a little hike. I managed to talk J into going with me after he excessively made fun of me wearing my brown puff vest. Yes, it was in the 70's, but it is also fall. I know many of you understand. ;)

Anyways, our little hike turned into just a walk and sit, but it was oh-so-nice. We saw geese, chipmunks, a turtle, squirrels, dogs and strange people. The park was crowded more than I have ever seen. We walked. We sat and talked. We watched a woman bike down Otter Creek Rd. yelling "left", but then confessing she did not know her right from her left. (I am talking a 40+ year old woman. I wanted to tell her to make a "L" or put her hand over her heart, you know all the things we do when we get confused. That isn't just me, right?!?!) We enjoyed the afternoon together.

Afterwards, we stopped by my grandparents for a quick dinner and made a trip to the children's hospital to see a miracle (more on that later!). All in all, a good day. The kind where you can lay down at night with a smile on your face. The makings of a quiet, simple, and fantastic fall break.

Hike for the Homeless

If you are looking for something to do this coming Saturday (Oct. 16) in Nashville, might I recommend Hike for the Homeless. The event benefits Safe Haven, a local family shelter. The hike is at Edwin Warner Park at starts at 9am. If you want to support a team, think about donating to the Trailblazers team headed up by the precious Savannah A.

A Nashville Saturday

Saturday was a beautiful day to play in Nashville!

Our friends Heather and Shannon came in from Memphis to play. Justin and his sister, Janae were also in town. Yea for good people! After figuring out what in the world we should do (apparently Nashville was packed with people who booked up all the places on the General Jackson and the Duck Tours!), we ended up deciding to go to Cheekwood.

It had been many a moon since my last visit to Cheekwood. I was highly impressed with the Japanese garden and the art museum in the main house. Red Grooms, one of my favorite (and local!) artists had many works on display. We walked around the sculpture wilderness trail too. That was a tad disappointing. Overall, a delightful experience and great Nashville thing to do!

A beautiful day is not complete unless there is an ice cream run! We went to our East Nashville favorite, The Pied Piper. The Pied Piper is a local homemade ice cream place that specializes in different flavors. Red Velvet Cake, Tomato Carrot (much, much, much better than it sounds!) , and Dark Chocolate with Cinnamon and Cayenne pepper just to name a few. I settled on a cone of Guiness and was quite content. :)

Another great Saturday in Nashville!

Predators

On Thursday night, Mrs. Mary the lunch lady and husband, Tiffany, and I headed to the Sommet Center to catch the Predators game. I have been so blessed this year with amazing front row seats. Last game we went to was a big disappointment. They were booed off by their own fans! However, Thursday's game made up for it!

We played the Anaheim Ducks. Final score: Preds 4 Ducks 2. Highlights included a great fight right in front of us, a Preds player tripping over the wall (hysterical!), Mrs.Mary's commentary of man staring at me, and of course toothless players.

Nashville Predators always make for a fun evening out. It is even better when you go for free!!!
